The importance of exercise technique

For all of our GPT members we go through a Learn to Lift session before starting the group sessions. This is a 1 on 1 session with a coach to work through a list of exercises and teach correct form.

Technique is one of the most important things when it comes to performing any type of exercise, whether it’s a simple body weight exercise like a press up or a squat with a barbell. Making sure you are performing each movement correctly will allow you to work the intended muscles allowing you to get the most from each exercise.

Technique can start to deteriorate if too much weight is added. Sometimes less is better, keep it at a weight where good technique can be used for all your reps and sets. Once you start to get stronger and are able to perform good technique you can then start to add some more weight on.

Overloading the bar and continuously performing exercises incorrectly will increase your risk of injury. Lifting weights places stress on the body, specific techniques are in place to allow you to move the weights safely and allow to move through full range of motion.
