25 May Escape
Around 18 months ago I was working my notice at my old job and I was scared shitless about leaving the reliable monthly income and going it alone in self-employment. but within the fear was a sense of excitement and, I’ll admit it, pride. I was proud of myself for taking the leap and attempting to make a living in an industry I loved and that was reflective of my own healthy lifestyle. I was proud of myself for not listening to those well-meaning people who told me to exercise caution and to really think about what it was that I was doing. It had been all I was thinking about for months!
While I’m definitely not suggesting that you chuck your job (I was in a fortunate situation where I had a supportive partner and no dependants relying on me – I could be selfish to a point), if you dread getting up for work every morning then something needs to change. Maybe you really do need to look for something else, maybe you just need to try to move to another department or get a promotion, or maybe you simply need to change your mindset and find your motivation.
Only you know the best course of action to take, and while the advice and opinions of your loved ones should be taken on board, at the end of the day it is you who has to get up and face the life that you’re making for yourself. Only you can find out what is best for you, and therefore best for those you care about.
