5 foods that help boost your immune system

One of the few positives that will come out of the coronavirus pandemic is our awareness for looking after our health.  Many of us already take a great deal of care in our health but I believe a big push will be made to look at every detail.

Their are many ways we can boost our immune system but here are my top 5 foods to boost it:

Citrus fruits

Most people turn to vitamin C after they’ve caught a cold. That’s because it helps build up your immune system. Vitamin C is thought to increase the production of white blood cells. These are key to fighting infections.

Popular citrus fruits include:

• grapefruit

• oranges

• tangerines

• lemons

• limes

Because your body doesn’t produce or store it, you need daily vitamin C for continued health. Almost all citrus fruits are high in vitamin C.

Broccoli

Broccoli is supercharged with vitamins and minerals.  Packed with vitmains A, C, and many other antioxidants and fiber, broccoli is one of the healthiest vegetables you can put on your table.

Spinach

Spinach is not only packed with vitamin C, its also rich in antioxidants which can increase the infection fighting ability of our immune system.  Cooking spinach actually enhances its vitamin A and allows other nutrients to be released.

Almonds

Although vitamin C is seen as the king to fighting colds, vitamin E plays a key role in keeping a healthy immune system.  Almonds are packed with vitamin E and also provide the body with healthy fats.  A handful of Almonds provides the body with it’s required daily amount of vitamin E.

Yoghurt

I’ve always been a big fan of yoghurt and not only because it tastes great! Greek yoghurt is a great source of vitamin D which in turn helps regulate our immune system and boosts are body’s natural defense against disease.  Yoghurt also contains provides us with healthy fats!
